April Claxton, APRN-CNP

April is a lifelong resident of Southern Oklahoma and has been caring for residents in this area since 1993.  She received an Associate’s Degree in Science from Murray State College in the spring of 1993 and entered the field of healthcare later that year as the weekend unit secretary on 3 East at Memorial Hospital of Southern Oklahoma. 

While working weekends, she attended LPN classes at Southern Tech, graduating in 1994.  She worked as an LPN in a local primary care practice before taking a position in home health to provide nursing care to homebound clients.  She continued in this field following graduation from the RN program at North Central Texas College in May 2000.

She began working for a local hospice in 2001 and continued her education at Oklahoma University Health Science Center, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2005.  She continued working in Southern Oklahoma in public health and home health.

In 2021, she graduated from Graceland University with a Master’s Degree in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner.  She is nationally certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.  In addition, she is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, Association of Oklahoma Nurse Practitioners, American Nurses Association, Oklahoma Nurses Association, and the American Academy of Neurology.

April’s philosophy in nursing is to treat everyone as a unique individual, to provide patients with the proper education and resources to make the best decisions regarding their healthcare options.
