Dr. Baha Abu-Esheh, MD FAAN FAHS DNBPAS
Dr. Baha Abu-Esheh is a board-certified neurologist who has been practicing for over 15 years. He received his M.D. from the University of Jordan Faculty of Medicine and completed his residency in Neurology at The University of Texas Southwestern. He also completed a fellowship in Clinical Neurophysiology at the University of Texas Southwestern.
Dr. Abu-Esheh has been practicing in the Ardmore community and surrounding areas since 2006 and is passionate about addressing the concerns of his patients through his many years of specialized training. He is also board-certified in Sleep Medicine, Headache Medicine, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology and American Headache Society. Additionally, he serves as Medical Director of the Sleep lab at Mercy Hospital and is a Diplomate of the National Board of Physicians and Surgeons.
Throughout his career, Dr. Abu-Esheh has gained a reputation for being an excellent diagnostician and a compassionate care provider. He is often invited to speak at conferences and other events and is involved in several research projects studying the latest treatments for neurological disorders. He is the former Chief of Staff at Mercy Hospital and has served on the Board of Directors and peer review committee for many years. He is currently the President of Southern Oklahoma Physicians Association (SOPA).
Dr. Abu-Esheh is a family man who values spending quality time with his family. He is married to a lovely wife and they have four children. He often spends his free time with his family, reading or watching soccer.
In addition to his busy practice, Dr. Abu-Esheh also volunteers his time with a number of organizations. He is particularly passionate about volunteering with organizations where he works with patients who have neurological disorders. He also participates in medical missions, charity events, and fundraisers, raising money for research and treatments for neurological disorders.
Through his dedication to his patients, his commitment to ongoing education and research, and his volunteer work, Dr. Baha Abu-Esheh has earned the respect and admiration of his peers and the gratitude of the many patients he has treated over the years.
Justin Cheek, APRN-CNP
Justin entered the medical field in 1997 with a First Responders class that eventually led to certification from the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians – Paramedic. His EMS career took him from Duncan to Ardmore, where he earned Critical Care Transport certification through the University of Maryland – Baltimore County, to Love County, Ok.
Upon completion of his nursing degree, he worked in the two Outpatient Surgery Centers, Management, and two Emergency Departments. He still teaches BLS, ACLS, and PALS through the American Heart Association.
Along the way he earned two Associate’s Degrees in Nursing and Business through Murray State College, a Bachelor’s Degree from SWOSU, and a Master’s Degree from Frontier Nursing University.
He enjoys neurology due to the complex control of the brain and nervous system and the need to use in-depth assessment skills to arrive at the proper diagnosis. The most rewarding aspect is when an issue is identified and resolved. At the end of the day, this is a collaboration between patient and provider towards the common goal of disease alleviation and prevention.
He is currently a member of The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and The American Academy of Neurology.
Carrie Evans, DNP, APRN-CNP
Carrie entered the medical field in 2005 as a certified nursing assistant, where she has worked multiple nursing homes. Eventually she began working as a medical assistant at a busy primary care office which sparked her interest in the nursing field.
She graduated from The University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She then attended nursing school at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, NWOSU, where she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
She has nine years working as a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department and Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. As a nurse, she obtained a Certification in Emergency Nursing, served as a preceptor for new nurses, and was nominated for nurse of the year.
During that time Carrie returned to NWOSU to obtain her Doctor of Nursing Practice. She is nationally certified though the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society, The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, and the American Academy of Neurology.
Her philosophy in nursing is to promote a healthcare environment that is respectful and therapeutic for patients and their families. It is her goal to develop strong provider-patient relationships that values patient’s freedom of choice in their own healthcare decisions.
April Claxton, APRN-CNP
April is a lifelong resident of Southern Oklahoma and has been caring for residents in this area since 1993. She received an Associates Degree in Science from Murray State College in the spring of 1993 and entered the field of healthcare later that year as the weekend unit secretary on 3 East at Memorial Hospital of Southern Oklahoma.
While working weekends, she attended LPN classes at Southern Tech, graduating in 1994. She worked as an LPN in a local primary care practice before taking a position in home health to provide nursing care to homebound clients. She continued in this field following graduation from the RN program at North Central Texas College in May 2000.
She began working for a local hospice in 2001, and continued her education at Oklahoma University Health Science Center, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2005. She continued working in Southern Oklahoma in public health and home health.
In 2021 she graduated from Graceland University with a Master’s Degree in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She is nationally certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. In addition, she is a member of The American Association of Nurse Practitioners, Association of Oklahoma Nurse Practitioners, American Nurses Association, Oklahoma Nurses Association and the American Academy of Neurology.
April’s philosophy in nursing is to treat everyone as a unique individual, to provide patients with the proper education and resources to make the best decisions regarding their healthcare options.
Connor Petty, DNP, APRN-CNP
Connor embarked on his journey into nursing by assisting individuals with both physical and cognitive disabilities. His fervent commitment to advocating for those with disabilities led him to hold positions at Camp Barnabas in Purdy, Missouri, and Respite Care for Adolescents with cognitive disabilities in Fort Worth, Texas.
In 2015, he proudly earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Texas Christian University. Over the span of eight years as a Registered Nurse, he amassed a wealth of expertise across diverse fields. These encompassed Oncology for Adolescent and Young Adults, Traumatic Brain Injury Rehabilitation, Psychiatry and Mental Health for Pediatric Sexual Trauma and Abuse Recovery (STAR), Pediatric Post-Anesthesia Care Unit, JD McCarty Registered Nurse for Applied Behavioral Analysis, and the role of House Supervisor Manager at the Veteran Center Ardmore.
During this period, Connor pursued further education, successfully attaining his Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Oklahoma City University. He holds national certification through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and actively participates in professional communities such as the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and the American Academy of Neurology.
Drawing from his rich healthcare background, Connor possesses a distinctive viewpoint on neurological disorders and their manifestations. His enthusiasm lies in deciphering intricate nursing theories and employing mathematical reasoning to elucidate the neurophysiological underpinnings that connect the realms of mind, body, and spirit, thus facilitating optimal functioning. He derives immense satisfaction from engaging with patients, aiding them in their pursuit of health objectives, and effectively managing, treating, and preempting neurological disorders.
Christopher Scott, APRN-CNP
Chris embarked on his healthcare journey in 2013, initially serving as a nursing assistant while pursuing his Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) program at Grayson College. After graduation, he gained valuable experience working on a Neuro/Spine unit, providing care for patients suffering from strokes, seizures, migraines, and various neurological disorders.
In 2016, he broadened his expertise by obtaining his Associates of Science in Nursing degree from Grayson College, subsequently becoming a licensed Registered Nurse. This milestone marked his transition to the Intensive Care Unit, where he attended to critically ill patients with utmost diligence and dedication.
Continuing his educational journey, Chris graduated from the University of Texas at Tyler in 2018 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. This academic achievement facilitated his move into a leadership role at a local hospital. For over five years, he served as the Director of Med/Surg, Swing Beds, Case Management, Nursing Administration, and Wound Care at TMC Bonham Hospital. During this leadership tenure, Chris furthered his education by attending the University of Texas at Arlington. In 2022, he graduated with a Master of Science in Nursing, becoming a Board-Certified Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.
Before his healthcare career, Chris dedicated eight years to serving the US military, with three years in the Army and five years in the Navy Reserves. He was deployed to Iraq in 2004, where he contributed to establishing a democratic government. As an M88A2 Tracked Recovery Vehicle operator, his role was crucial in recovering vehicles damaged in enemy attacks. For his commendable service during deployment, Chris was awarded the Army Commendation Medal.
